BBQ may seem humble at a glance, but it takes a lot of practice and patience to perfect the art of grilling. The folks at Lillie’s Q have done just that. We searched high and low to find the finest sauces, rubs, and seasonings for your summer cookout (plus some other top picks). Once you break the wax seal on a bottle of their hand-crafted sauces, delicious aromas of smoke and spice will get your mouth watering right away. And just wait until you slather some on that rack of ribs! Named after Chef Charlie McKenna’s grandmother, every offering from this award-winning kitchen is a ringer. Although the restaurant is based out of Chicago, we brought their Southern-style goodies to the DC area this summer! Read on to learn about regional BBQ varieties and check out a smokin’ recipe for shrimp and grits.
As Chef Charlie toured the BBQ competition circuit from Memphis to Alabama and the Carolinas, he created a Lillie’s Q sauce unique to each region along the way. The sweet brown sugar in our Smoky and Hot Smoky represents Memphis with a little extra kick, perfect for slow-cooked ribs and tri-tip beef. The tomato vinegar in our aptly named Carolina comes from the traditions Western Carolina. Packed with tangy lime and apple juice, it is a natural fit for smoked pork!
Carolina Dirt and Q-Rub will be your new go-to’s for everything from pork to French Fries. And after one taste of our famous Bloody Mary mix and you’ll be hooked; just splash in some moonshine and rim the glass with Carolina Dirt for a true Southern treat at brunch. Don’t forget to add a dash of hot sauce! Stock up your pantry and watch the video below to whip up a batch of shrimp and grits, Lillie’s Q style.
